WICK-IT – Hand crafted aromatic materials
Soy candles, vegan soaps, bath bombs, gift baskets, knitted goods
The Lazy Gardener- Home to Wick-It is located on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. We (Lynn & Dave Wilson) started out in 2008 in the gardening business by building a greenhouse on the back of the garage for personal use. Four greenhouses later we needed to give up the greenhouse side of our business in 2017.
Wick-It has just evolved over the years. Originally looking for a candle supplier for our seasonal Christmas store on the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, our daughter volunteered to develop an environmentally sound candle using wood wicks, soy wax and essential oils.
The Kingston-based business became “Wick-It”. The candles were a hit and our daughter preceded to source ingredients for a vegan soap that her sensitive skin would tolerate. She decided then to return to university to study Social Work.
Rather than shut down Wick-It, we volunteered to keep it going. After a few local craft shows, we added bath bombs, our family’s knitted goods and gift baskets to the collection. The indigenous-inspired designs and scents have found an audience at Hand Made Craft shows, conferences and Pow-Wows across the province.
We couldn’t continue to grow our business without the support of our family and our community. Nia:weh (Thank you)
